Tiki Cat and Tiki Dog natural gourmet whole pet foods are new to Bare Essentials and, so far we like what we see! It is manufactured in a human-grade factory and is truly human-grade quality.

All products are made with whole meat from preferred, premium portions that are left whole and intact verses traditional meatloaf or other “mystery meat” pates. All meat ingredients are listed as in the primary flavor name without mystery or unnamed “ocean fish”, chicken and other inferior filler meat sources.

We are currently offering four flavors for cats and four for dogs in the Pet section here at Bare Essentials Natural Market. We hope you’ll take some home for your furry friends to try!

Here is more information from Tiki:

Our fish is caught from our own fishing vessels in the South Pacific – where mercury levels and pollutants are at their lowest possible levels. Our Tuna is caught with short lines (which catch smaller, younger fish) to eliminate concerns of mercury. We only catch seafood that is recommended for human consumption by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. Our products are hand cut and filleted, hand packed, and canned fresh at the source. All agricultural ingredients are fresh and locally grown in Thailand. They are grown by natural human food-grade growers and are tested for pesticides, pathogens, heavy metals, antibiotics and other contaminants. None of our food ingredients are outsourced.

We have a “No Compromise Food Philosophy” that addresses

  • Real Whole Food Ingredients
  • Human Consumable Quality
  • Impeccable Food Safety Standards
  • and Environmental Responsibility.

We use only human grade ingredients, we don’t use any fillers, they are all low glycemic index, low magnesium, and low phosphate and have been approved not only for healthy adult maintenance, but also serious wellness diets for animals with CRF, Diabetes, Kidney and Liver Diseases, etc… We haven’t come across one special diet we can’t feed and vets across the country are beginning to get into holistic foods and treatment because of their experience with Tiki.

I Wouldn’t Feed That to My Dog!

Our pets eat what we serve them. Make sure that your pets receive the best fuel for long, happy, healthy lives. It’s relatively easy to figure out, you just have to know what to look for—ingredients vary radically.

Many dog food and cat food brands’ main ingredients include corn, soybeans, wheat, poultry fat, chicken or beef by-product meal, and animal digest. Corn, soy and wheat are major allergens for both pets and people.

But what is “by-product meal” and “animal digest”? The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) defines chicken by-product meal as: “the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines.”

And the animal digest? Well, AAFCO defines it as: “material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and un-decomposed animal tissue.” “Animal tissue” can be from any source, and may include the remains of euthanized animals (and traces of the chemicals used for euthanasia).

Consider the ingredients in a pet food like Solid Gold, found at Bare Essentials Natural Market: lamb, lamb meal, millet, brown rice, cracked pearled barley, oatmeal, rice bran, menhaden fish meal, canola oil, flax meal, amaranth, and blueberries. Real meat and wholesome grains. No obscure ingredients. No by-products.

You’ll notice the difference in your pet almost immediately after switching to high quality, nutritionally sound, whole foods. We’ve seen changes in behavior, energy, coat and overall health. Over the long-term, your pets will remain healthier and have noticeably fewer vet visits.

The Solid Gold pet product line is just one of the many fine brands at Bare Essentials Natural Market. Check out our extensive selection of pet foods to fit every dog or cat’s needs and every owner’s budget.

Fillers and binders commonly used in pet foods could have a negative impact on the health of your furry friend.

Choose your pet’s chow as wisely as you do your own by avoiding these common fillers and binders, which lack nutritional value and are no one’s best friend.

Animal digest

This ingredient is essentially a cooked-down broth made from parts of unspecified animals. Though it’s untraceable and not allowed in organic pet foods, it is listed in some natural dog foods. There are no limits on the type of animals used; animal digest may include goats, pigs, horses, rats, roadkill, diseased animals, and even animals euthanized at shelters.

Brewers rice

These rice fragments are a byproduct of the rice milling process. Brewers rice contains far fewer nutrients than whole brown rice and is also much cheaper for manufacturers to procure. Look for brown rice on labels, instead.

Wheat gluten

This tough, sticky substance is left behind when starch is removed from wheat. It’s an inexpensive food-processing by product used as a binder in some pet foods and has little nutritional value.

Raw Meat, Please!

What would I buy if I could shop for my own dinner? I’d be shopping for raw meat! And if I went to Bare Essentials Natural Market, I’d have a great selection. They’ve got 10 varieties of raw frozen dog and cat food by Nu Dimensions Nutrition.

Why feed your cat or dog raw food?

We’re meat eaters by nature and our bodies require the enzymes, amino acids and other nutrients in raw meat to stay healthy. A diet consisting of raw meats, organ meats, bone and fat are what we would eat in our natural habitat.

Proper nutrition leads to a happier and healthier pet. Cooking food causes proteins to denature, damaging their biochemical identity. Raw foods are superior to cooked diets because the proteins, vitamins and minerals stay intact and are more completely utilized by their bodies. With a good diet your pet will attain a lush and glossy coat, healthy skin, lean muscle tone, stronger bones and teeth, a healthy heart, proper digestion and increased energy and vitality. Many skin and coat problems are a direct result of a lack of raw animal fat in our diets (which humans often believe is bad for us).

Nu Dimensions Nutrition was started by a pet owner in Hurdle Mills, NC in an effort to find nutritional solutions for her own pets. NuDimensions Raw pet food products contain USDA inspected meats and certified organic vegetables but no antibiotics,  hormones or by-products. Lamb, venison, duck, turkey, fish and rabbit are available in various combinations. The food is conveniently portioned in 1 pound packages to thaw in the refrigerator the day before feeding. All varieties are suitable for all stages of life for both cats and dogs.

WARNING: We do not advise letting cats or dogs do their own shopping. They are not equipped to operate a motor vehicle, handle money, or open doors. Bare Essentials Natural Market is not in any way liable for your pets purchasing decisions.
